Icon Meme time!

Stolen from [community profile] ali_wildgoose

I'm feeling oddly blocked for fresh ideas, so maybe a meme will help me out!

1. Pick one of my icons and post it in a comment.

2. I will write you at least one sentence of something vaguely resembling fiction based on said icon.

3. If the icon in question does not contain fictional characters, I reserve the right to Make Some Shit Up.

Katara would never tell anyone this -- she nearly made herself forget it soon after it happened -- but the incident stayed in her mind and festered there. Like a splinter.

Her brother wasn't the broody type. Not usually. But with Aang hurt, Ba Sing Se taken, the Water Tribe fleet in pieces and them on the run... she couldn't blame him. She was barely holding herself together.

She caught Sokka one day sitting staring at the fire. His knees drawn up to his chest, chin resting on top. Just staring.

Katara almost said something to him about lazing around. She was busy enough, tending to Aang and trying to cook them dinner, but something about the scene made her stop. He seemed... distant somehow. His eyes were unfocused, all sharp intelligence gone and just... sad.

And as she stood there, silent and watchful he reached out to the fire as if... but no, that was stupid... surely...

Sokka's hand stopped short of the flames. He blinked as if coming out from a dream. Then, with stuttering hesitation, he pulled back.

Maybe his fingers had just been cold. Katara made herself turn away. Aang needed her right now.

When she looked back over her shoulder a few minutes later her brother was walking towards the stream with a fishing line and a hook.

Katara shook her head again, pressing her lips together. She was being stupid. Sokka was as much of a firebender as she was.

But the flash of longing she had seen in his eyes as he reached for the fire had been real, and no matter how much she told herself it was a trick of the light, she couldn't forget it.

*YES! MY SNEAKY PLAN HAS SUCCEEDED BEYOND MY WILDEST HOPES!*

Oh Katara, the irony of that thought. <<;
