I thought I might recommend you a few of my favourite fics.
walked right out of the machinery (http://rydra-wong.livejournal.com/80615.html) An AU Stargate fic where Jack remains infested by the Tok'ra Kanon. Even if you don't know that much Stargate it's worth researching just so you can take in this brilliant story. It's my utmost favourite fic of all time and this coming from a person who is not particularly a Stargate fan.
Recall Alice When She Was Just Small (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3493409/1/Recall_Alice_When_She_Was_Just_Small) A Harry Potter fic dealing with the life of Dudley Dursely. Not a lot of action but massive amounts of depth.
The Right Hand Path (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3221511/1/The_Right_Hand_Path) Another AU where Merope doesn't die and survive to raise her son. Unfortunately apparently abbandoned.
One thing a totally adore about all these fics that in none of the writers forget the nastier traits of the main character. They are very much themselves.
