I meant to finish the next part of Another Brother today and send it off to Kim for betaing, but this chapter is a fucking mess. I am so frustrated with my own writing right now I could scream.

In other news, I've been taking daily walks with my dog over the last week because it's come to my attention that I am getting out of breath walking up and down the stairs at work. Not cool. So anyway I was walking along the streets and this chocolate brown lab comes roaring up out of an open garage charging and barking.

My dog, my freakin' 150 lbs mastiff, HIDES BEHIND ME.

So I picked up a stick to defend myself with and stood up straight and yelled at the dog to go away. It paused and gave me a look like WTF while my dog was nearly laying down and shaking. I think Petra's total submission really confused the lab. Then the owner came out and dragged the dog away. What the hell, man? If your dog is that out of control and protective of its yard why would you leave your door open like that?

It ended well and of course I didn't want my dog to get in a fight -- I have a gentle leader on her which gives me control of her head, but I don't think I could have held her back if she went after the lab. Just kinda scary to learn that if I ran across an animal while on a hike, I'm on my own. Petra can run faster. ;D

Actually, a walk doesn't sound too bad right now. Maybe it'll clear my head for a bit.

Though not necessarily. I was a house- and dog-sitting for my neighbor a while back. She had a tiny dog with pure white curly hair. He was about the height of one's forearm with black soulful eyes. Cuteness incarnate.

For the most part he was well behaved, but at first decided to play "Who's the alpha?" with me, then attempted to protect me from every strange male in my vicinity including my older brother and a GIGANTIC Lab who... ahem... was convinced I was a female dog. I was standing their with this giant dog humping me while a little white bit of fluff was running circles around his ankles growling ferociously. When the dog's owner finally came over and pulled the Lab off while apologizing profusely, he was puzzled by my hysterical laughter.

My neighbor's dog was named "Loki" by the way. Appropriate.

Haha! Well that is true. I guess I can't have it both ways, can I? Again, I'm really glad there wasn't a dog-fight. Afterwards, I was just like, "... Hey..."

And OMG that's the funniest image ever. Poor Loki must have been so indignant that some lab was touching his territory. :)

For what it's worth, I'm sure if it had come right down to it, Petra would've protected you. That sort of behaviour is often a sign of Petra telling the other dog "You are higher in the hierarchy than me." Now if it had wanted more than simple dominance and actually threatened a member of her 'pack', I'm sure she would've behaved differently.

For the record, Haltis (Halties?) are better. They tend to irritate the eyes less.

Really? I tried a halty (hell if I know how to spell it either :P) and it didn't seem to work for me. I never thought about the gentle leader irritating her eyes, though. I'll have to watch for that. Mostly, it's used for insurance. She hardly ever pulls, but she's so strong that if she felt like it, without a way to control her head, there would be almost nothing I could do to stop her.

People do tend to think it's a muzzle, though. lol.
