I know a lot of people are migrating here due to the latest LJ shenanigans. I've tried DW in the past (here's my account for proof!) and... honestly, it's not for me. It's uglier than LJ with smaller circles. It's less fun, more serious business.

Go ahead and friend me (or... add me to the circle? Is that what it's called? IDK), but unless something really chances my mind I can't imagine I'll be using this account very much.

: My Corner of the Sky (Sequel to Thicker Than Blood)
Crossover: Inception/ (500) Days of Summer
Pairing: Arthur/Eames, Tom/Autumn
Rating: R
Summary: Two levels down into his first real extraction, with his brother's boyfriend tagging along like a babysitter, Tom Hansen wonders if he has what it takes to make it in dream share.
Notes: This is a sequel to Thicker Than Blood, and contains references to that fic. If you haven't read it, just be aware that Arthur and Tom are twins in this 'verse.
Tom Hansen allowed himself a brief surge of satisfaction as he walked down a sidewalk of his own making.  )

It's not that I haven't updated this account since around April, it's just that... yeah, okay, I haven't updated this account since around April. What can I say? Dreamwidth is a pain in the ass pale substitute, and I only use it when LJ goes down.

Oh please, oh PLEASE LJ, don't be down forever....

Title: When Somebody Loved Me, Everything Was Beautiful
Fandom: Inception
Pairing: Eames/Arthur (pre-slash)
Word Count: 3000~
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Implied violence against an animal.
Summary: For as long as Eames could remember, it had always been him and Darling.
Notes: Really loosely based off of this kink meme prompt. I'm not gonna lie... this is a strange fic. It started off as an exercise to get me out of writers slump, and then took a u-turn. This version is edited from the one on the kink meme.

Every hour we spent together lives within my heart... )

Confession: Fandom has been bumming me out lately. Don't get me wrong: I love you guys, but god damn, the all of the doom and gloom is starting to get to me. (Only so many incarnations of 'X is different and therefore ruined for life forever' before I start looking for a rusty spoon to scoop my eyeballs out. )

So! Let me share with you some ridiculous things that have been making me happy. And maybe you'll be inspired to share things that make YOU happy. Then I can be inspired by your happiness, and it'll be a giant circle-jerk of inspiration. :D

1) I have stumbled upon a stupid-large amount of excellent fan fiction. It turns out that if you don't stick to only one or two fandoms, there's a whole world out there of good stories. I just got done reading a Psych fan fiction (which I cannot find now. Woe) which was written as a true crime drama... of course it shipped Lassiter/Shawn, and I tried, but I could not take that pairing seriously. Every time Lassiter was shown in any way sexual I started giggling like I was twelve and it was my first sex ed class. STILL, don't let my hangups stop you. Good fic. Good fandom!

American Idol. Until this season, I had yet to sit down and watch a whole American Idol show. Somehow I got caught up in the auditions and absolutely fell head over heels for this little bastard:

Yeah. He's ten years younger than me, which officially makes me an old dirty woman. BUT THAT VOICE. Honey, I don't even like country, but if they all sang like him, I could learn to love it! And if he doesn't win, then I'll probably end up voting for the scruffy guy who looks like Seth Rogan.

3) Inception.

Speaking of me being a dirty perv, I am still so caught up in the Inception fandom right now it's not even funny.

For the first time in years I am more of a lurker than a participant, but it's nice, you know? I am doing the [livejournal.com profile] i_reversebang  and my crazy crossover fic, but that may just be it. I'm happy to watch and read all of the glorious fic and only contribute some instead of doing what I normally do, which is start an epic WIP with no end in sight. haha. But anyway, the fandom's great. I can't recommend it enough. (But I'm gonna try!!!!)

4) Every book I've picked up recently has been awesome!

One of this days I'll do a giant writeup about Kim Harrison's Hollows series and tell everyone exactly why I hate it and love it in equal amounts, but the most recent book, Pale Demon, definitely tipped it into the LOVE <33333 range.  It makes me remember why I love books so much, which is easy to forget when, as I said before, there's brilliant fan fiction out there.

5) The new Harry Potter movie is coming out! I'll admit I wasn't excited at all for Part 1 for reasons I will not go into here because this is a LOVE post and not a HATE post, but I'm getting excited! I listened to Goblet of Fire on audiobook recently and... damn, I had actually forgotten how wonderful the books really were. Somehow, I had forgotten all about it in between fandom and the movies. Definitely recommend you pick up your favorite Harry Potter book and give it a reread if it's been some time.

With that, I'll leave you with this JPEG.

So! What's making you happy in fandom right now? GIFs and JPEG's are a plus.

I plan on doing these about once a month or two (more, if updates become more frequent).

All of my new recommended fic can now be found on my Tumblr account. As always, I take any pairing, genre, rating, or (new!) fandom. The only thing I ask is that the fic be completed and not a work in progress. I have received quite a few recommendations so far, and am working my way through them. But I would love even more!

The list is a little puny this round as I've just started... )

Most people know about the errors ff.net has been having recently in regards to uploading new chapters. Well, there appears to be another -- at least for gmail users.

It turns out that notifications are being delayed by as much as two days. I've been getting reviews hitting my inbox today that happened on March 30th. However, from reading ff.net support forms these delays are not occurring with other email accounts (hotmail, yahoo, ect.)

Just thought I'd throw that out there in case you're like me who thought that NO email alerts were getting out at all, and that no one would ever see that In His Shoes was updated. I was feeling a little emo until I actually logged into ff.net and saw that wasn't the case at all. XD

I'm going to switch my ff.net account to a hotmail account and forward my email back to gmail and see if that works.

Title: In His Shoes
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: Avatar is not mine. Belongs to Nick.
Summery: In order to fully understand a man, you must first walk a mile in his shoes. Sokka and Zuko are going to find that out the hard way.
Spoilers: Only for season 2
Notes: It's the beginning of the end, guys! Are you excited? I'm excited. :D

This is just a reminder that the bidding at [livejournal.com profile] help_japan  ends at 3AM on the 31st PST time. (Or 6AM EST). So, like, 9 hours away!

Again, I'm offering a minimum 2000 word fic of either Avatar, Naruto or Inception (or, hey, I'm always up for a crossover) and the bid stands at $40 (Thanks [livejournal.com profile] azardarkstar!). My offering can be found HERE.

*Rushes off to check on the things I've bid on*

I went ahead and created a Tumblr account a few months ago, but it's only now that I feel comfortable enough with the site to pimp it out.

Basically, this will be my new place to log fan fiction recommendations. My existing lists will remain on LJ (and I may compile new ones to post here eventually) but from now on, everything new that I read which I find extraordinary I'm going to be recommending on the Tumblr site.

It's a little bare and sad right now with only three recommendations (two Inception, one Avatar), but I plan on adding more all the time. Follow me! Or better yet, recommend me some fic that you think is worthy to pimp here: http://awesomeavocadolove.tumblr.com/ask

Same rules as always: Any fandom, any pairing, any rating. However, I will not be recommending Works In Progress or fics I've mentioned already on my LJ lists. (At least, not until I've got the Tumblr plumped up a little with new stuff.)

I especially would like to hear about good, new Avatar and Naruto fics as I've fallen behind recently. :(

So I was laying in bed last night, a snoring mastiff at my feet, when I finally finally was hit with the ending to the fic which has been eating my brain. (Unfortunately it'll increase my word count like whoa although that is neither here nor there.)  I started writing it out and realized, once again, I was basing the premise somewhere in Northern California.

This probably is to be expected: I've lived in NorCal all my life and am not really all that well-traveled. By using somewhere I myself am familiar with I can avoid embarrassing mistakes, like saying that Boston is a two hour drive from Long Island, or accidentally using 'miles' instead of 'kilometers' when my characters are dodging bullets in the Swiss Alps.

Certainly there are actual authors who do this --  Stephen King would have me believe that everything important and/or scary happens somewhere in Maine -- and if it's in the canon, hey, why not?

... There's something lazy about it, isn't there? It's always seemed to me a little smug, as if the writer is saying, "This is my home: let me show it to you." Like being cornered and forcefully shown boring vacation photos from extended family, and yes, they had a good time but you personally couldn't care less.

It still doesn't stop me from doing it, occasionally. Not like I have much of an opportunity -- there's not much use for any geographical location to pop up in ATLA or Naruto. But I will sometimes throw in a local bird or describe a swimming hole based on a place I've been: tiny inside jokes probably only I will get upon re-reading.

So my question to everyone is... how much of this do you do in your writing? Do you prefer to set your characters in a place which suspiciously resembles your home town? Do you avoid it like the plague? Do you see it as lazy writing or relatively harmless?

Though I realize that the events happened less than 12 hours ago and that it'll take some time to get lines of communication reestablished so the people affected may not even see this... my heart goes out to you, my Japanese friends. Stay safe, heed the evacuation warnings, and boil tap water for 10 minutes before drinking.

I don't know of a country which has a more well prepared infrastructure or people for earthquakes. These are hard times, but I'm certain Japan will overcome with both dignity and grace.

Title: The Boy Who Spoke With Ghosts
Parings: Eames/Arthur
Rating: R for graphic visuals.
Spoilers: Inception/Sixth Sense crossover. Major spoilers for both movies.
Word Count: 5,400ish
Notes: Based from this excellent prompt on the Kink Meme: Arthur's real name is Cole Sear. Bonus points for an "I see ----__ people" that's not totally cracky.
Notes 2:
Sorry about the delay. This was one of those irritating transitioning chapters I hate to write (but which are so necessary). Also, there's been a little discussion on my journal on whether we ever see Arthur's projections in the movie. It's still up for debate, but for the purposes of this fic: his projections aren't shown during the Saito/Inception jobs.
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2

Arthur was helping his stepfather carve the thanksgiving turkey when his cell phone buzzed in his pocket. He quickly excused himself and took the call in his old room, shutting the door on the sounds of happy chatter and warmth of cooking food. )

As I'm in need of some fun distraction, here's a meme I copied from [livejournal.com profile] fire_lord_azula .

Name a character and I'll tell you three (or more) facts about them from my own personal headcanon.

If I've ever mentioned a fandom, or wrote about one (even in a crossover) then it's fair game. :)

This is an open letter to whomever was unlucky enough to be picked to be my remixer for the [livejournal.com profile] kakairu_fest .

First of all, let me say I'm really excited about this, but I don't want you to stress too much. I am actually fairly easy to please. (That's what she said.) My list of KakaIru fic can be found under the Naruto tag on my LJ (which contains some obscure crossovers and half-assed plots that never got off the ground), or A03 for the completed, less obscure stuff. Also, my ff.net profile for stuff I may have forgotten to put up elsewhere.

Sadly, Teach Your Children Well is still a WIP, so I think it's off limits per the rules. I don't have a 'safe' fic, so feel free to go nuts and do whatever your heart desires. I'm pretty hard to squick, but I only ask that there not be any watersports, bloodplay, or sexin' between a child and an adult. Oh, and I'm stealing this from [livejournal.com profile] tucuxi , but:  I find nicknames that are abbreviations of their given names (kashi, ruka, etc.) really jarring, and they tend to knock me out of the story, so if you could avoid those, that would be fantastic.

So other than ALL THAT stuff, I'm easy to please.(No really!)  Again, just have fun with this. I can't wait to see it, whatever it is. :D

Summary: Mai may have died that day at the Boiling Rock, but she never left.
Notes: Here is my decidedly unromantic valentines fic. :D This was prompted by [livejournal.com profile] attackfish  way back in my art prompt meme, and was haunting my hard-drive (HA!). So I decided to give it a quick polish and post (mostly because I sorta hate valentines day).

I'm going to put this out there first and foremost: I love cheesy books and movies. I've watched movies such as This Island Earth and The Happening more times than I can count, and have an entire shelf dedicated to bad, but lovable Star Trek novellas, urban fantasy heroines with the tough exterior (but heaving bosoms when it comes to the vampire/ware/fae/other of their dreams), and animal-bonding sagas.

So when I saw this book at my local Big Box Retailer, I snatched it up on the strength of its cover alone. (Also, it had an animal-bonding theme which, as I said above, is one of my many, many weaknesses.)

Seriously. I could have done a better Photoshop with my MS Paint. I don't know what is going on with those back feet (it's like the artist just gave up and drew squiggy lines for toes). And... does that guy have a jaw-beard? How very modern of him.

Sadly, this book turned out neither cheesy nor remotely lovable. )
